Apple introduced iPhone 6s/6s Plus with bunch of new exciting features, Live Photos being the one. Instead of carrying the contemporary way of capturing images, we can now capture the moment few seconds before and few seconds after the shot, with both sound and movement. In case you are just figuring out what Live Photos is, a Live Photo captures 1.5 seconds of video before as well as after you press the shutter button to take a photo.
Though Apple has done exceptionally well to bring totally new feature for users but third party apps don’t seem so generous to us, WhatsApp is no exception to it. I have an iPhone 6s, I want to share Live Photos with many of my contacts, not just the ones using Apple’s own iMessage service. Though there is no permanent solution to this but we can have a nifty workaround to Share Live Photos On WhatsApp, lets see how :
Update (7 Nov, 2016) : WhatsApp has introduced new feature which let the users to send live photos as GIF without any third party app. Just update WhatsApp and make sure the WhatsApp version is 2.16.15. For your convenience, here’s a step by step guide to send live photos as GIF on WhatsApp :
Step 1 : Open WhatsApp and head over to the Contact or group you want to send Live photos to.
Step 2 : Tap on the Camera icon next to Writing space just to attach the live photo.
Step 3 : Next tap on Gallery icon at the bottom left corner of the screen, force touch the Live photo you want to send (do not uplift your finger) and swipe up to get the new photo sharing menu.
Step 4 : Tap on Select as GIF and finally Send.

Pre-requisite Before You Send Live Photos On WhatsApp
- Live Photos can only be captured with iPhone 6s/6s Plus/SE, though forwarding the received Live Photos from older iPhones is always possible. In order to share Live photos on WhatsApp, your iPhone should be running on iOs 9 or later.
- Install Lively app right on your iPhone.
How To Send Live Photos On WhatsApp :
Due to platform limitations of WhatsApp, we are not exactly going to share Live Photos on WhatsApp. What we’ll do is, convert the Live photo into a 3 sec video which carries your lovely moment into a beautiful running frame. This is by far the cleanest way to send Live Photos on WhatsApp.
Step 1 : Done with the installation of Lively app on your iPhone? If yes, Launch Lively and allow it to access your Photos.
Step 2 : Now select the Live Photo you wish to share on WhatsApp and tap on Movie tab. Finally Click on Export Movie and tap on Share. From sharing Menu, select WhatsApp and head over to the contact you wish to send Live Video.
